Guess what I ate last night…

FEAR FOODS.

And a lot of them.

I realized at oh say…10:30 pm that I hard hardly eaten anything yesterday. I hadn’t even broken 1000 calories yet. I just wasn’t hungry (I blame it on changing up what I was eating yesterday. My body was confused.). So instead of stuffing myself with low calorie, high volume vegetables, I decided to throw together higher calories foods – all into one big mess!

Okay, so it wasn’t so big. It was perfect sized.

Why were these “fear foods?” Oh I don’t know…because they’re higher in calories than most things I consume regularly? Because they taste really good and I’m thus guilty for eating them? I really have no good reason.

But I ate them last night and didn’t feel all that guilty. I ate grains, fruit, nut butter, and a store bought cookie (BISCOFF!) without feeling bad or heavy. WIN.

PB & B Oat Bran Mess

Submitted as a Wellness Weekend Post

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup oat bran
  • 1 cup water
  • sweetener to taste
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 small banana (3-3.5 oz) sliced
  • 2 tbs powdered peanut butter mixed with 1 1/2 tbs water (or 1/2-1 tbs natural peanut butter mixed with 1-1 1/2 tbs water)
  • 1 biscoff cookie, crumbled (or half of a graham cracker – not nearly as good)

Directions:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook your oat bran in the water, stirring constantly until thick – around 3 or so minutes should do. Add in your sweetener and vanilla at any time. When fully cooked, set the heat to the lowest setting. Go slice your banana, prepare your peanut butter, and get out your cookie. Stir half of your bananas into your oat bran, turn off and remove from the heat, and pour your oat bran into your bowl of choice. Top your oat bran with the remaining banana slices, drizzle the nut butter over the bananas, and crumble your cookie on top! Nosh when cool enough to eat without burning your mouth and tongue!

Then a few hours later I had a dougnut. Which did make me feel guilty. I totaled in a 1180 calories. Guilty.

What type of hot cereal is your favourite?

Do you have any “fear foods?”

Should I feel guilty for eating a fat free doughnut after midnight? Do you eat midnight snacks? What are your faves?

  1. Danni, I’m so proud of you! I actually meant to recommend oat bran to you as an awesome food to try in my comment yesterday. Isn’t it just creamy-dreamy delicious? I have a huge bowl of Chocolate-Banana Oat Bran topped with almond butter every day.

You definitely showed your ED who’s the boss :) – great!

Don’t feel guilty for eating the doughnut late at night – it was fat-free and healthy! I’d feel bad about telling you what I eat every night because I’m such a late-night-eater :) .

    • I love oat bran, and ought to eat it more often. It is creamy and delicious :) I love the sounds of the chocolate banana oat bran…I might make something like that with my chocolate hemp protein powder, pretty soon!

Haha okay :) I wish I didn’t feel so guilty for eating food. That’s something major I have to work on (and have been!)/

  9. You should totally not feel guilty about eating that donut, first of all. Your body obviously needed it!! Great job for upping your calories as well. I hope you’re continuing to challenge those ED voices and eat much more than the bare minimum. That said, that oat bran looks delish. Does it taste nice with banana? What about real PB? I’m obsessessssed with biscoff!
