…A super simple hummus recipe!
But no. No true love for me. I don’t do the whole “love” thing. Imma independent lady!
On that note…although there is no “true love” for me, there is a truly lovely tasting and super easy to make hummus recipe for you! So get your blenders ready…
Low Fat Garlic Hummus
Yields: 1 1/2 cups
Ingredients:
- 1 14oz can rinsed and drained chickpeas
- 1 cup cauliflower, boiled or steamed until very very tender
- 2 tbs sesame tahini
- 1 tbs tamarind concentrate (or lemon juice)
- 1 tsp braggs liquid aminos
- 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
Directions:
Blend until very smooth, scraping the sides of your food processor vessel as necessary. Serve with raw veggies. Or you know, just eat it with your fingers a spoon.
Not going to lie…this was one of the only successful things that I made in the kitchen today.
Here’s how it went…
Fail 1 – Shortbread. I wanted to make a simple shortbread cookie bar. So I went onto the Martha Stewart site and followed a recipe from there. I didn’t stray from the directions. I baked them for 50 minutes at 325F like the recipe said. And they were totally over baked. Effing bummer. *perhaps I should invest in an oven thermometer…*
Fail 2 – Brownies. And this one was totally my fault. I played around with the Deluxe Cocoa Brownie recipe from VCIYCJ. I recplaced the sugar with jaggery and stevia. I was going to replace only some of the fat with applesauce and use coconut oil for the rest …but. I forgot to put the oil in with the fat substitute. So not only did I replace half the fat with applesauce, which would make a brownie gummy anyways, I forgot the rest of the actual fat. Fail.
Well that was discouraging.
So I decided to go with something foolproof for supper as to not make me feel like a total failure. And my rule is…when in doubt, make pizza. The only thing is… I had not prepared any pizza dough.
So I just used one of these huge-ass pita breads.
Since I was using pita I thought…hey. Middle Eastern-flavoured pizza. Why not? Why not use up some of the hummus I made earlier? And I also had some left over gobi tikka mixture, so I spread that on the pizza as well. And it was good. Very, very good. And yes, I ate a slice of it. Cold. Later. Hours after dinner. Because I figured with the amount of exercise I did today (ie too much), I should probably get to at least 1000 calories. So I had a slice and am trying not to regret it.
Without further adieu, here be the recipe:
Gobi Pav-zza
Yields 6-8 slices
Ingredients:
- 1 very large pita bread (over 12″ in diameter) or 4 normal 6-8″ pitas (I use the Alwatan Pita from Breadko)
- 1/4 cup hummus (from the recipe above, or your favourite brand/recipe)
- 1/4 recipe gobi tikka patties
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 375F and get out a pizza pan.
Place your pita on the pan (no need to spray/grease)
Spread your hummus evenly across your pita with a rubber spatula.
Spread the gobi tikka mixture atop the hummus.
Bake for 15 minutes.
Munch.
‘Tis a mint-chocolate frappe with cocoa tofu whipped “cream.” Totally. Yummy. And only 90 calories total.

i love the name of this dish..! gobi pav-zza! yeah!
u are super creative!
you need like an indian mom around.. indian moms never listen to a no when it comes to food. they just sweet talk u into finishing up everything on the plate.. and wats on your plate depends on your order of being loved and pampered that day.. for eg my mom always puts on t he plate, double of what my husband can eat.. she just loves to pamper him.
Awh thank you
haha wow, really? That’s kinda funny (in regards to the amount of food your husband is pampered with). It almost makes you think of the stereotypical Italian mother as well. Maybe it’s just a motherly thing…pampering and showing love with food. Perhaps it’s not always good for the waistline! lol
on the other hand.. it might be too stressful to have a pushy mom around.. she is a sweety though and cooks really good food, which was the only thing that worked when i was dealing with too much nausea for other reasons.
i messed up my bread lately.. got too lazy to knead it well and it had to much moisture… baked a bit flat.. but edible enuff. my dog loves it:)
ya, sometimes I suppose a little pushiness in some situations helps a bit
Especially when one (like me) is reluctant to eat. No matter how tasty the food.
what types of food did you find soothing when you were dealing with nausea? I quite often have an upset digestive system (probably the amount of fiber I take in doesn’t help matters…I tend to eat foods that throw by dosha out of balance…ie too much broccoli and cauliflower…)
i ate a lot of pickles.. indian pickles.. high salt.. but that just helped me eat at the time..and stuffed parathas.. i dont know why..:) stuffed with cauli, potato, radish, beet or whatever. it all depends on the day.. some days i would eat lots of bread.. life half a loaf.. some other days i would eat everything with chili sauce…i did not like rice at all.. or really sweet, or chocolate.. my tummy was totally weird with a life of its own.
now however i like to balance things out.. i need decent amount of protein in each meal.. so lots of nuts. i dont eat tofu at all. so its all about lentils, beans and nuts, and freshly made food. old and reheated food usually kills my appetite a bit.
Hmmm…pickled veg sounds good. I’ve been aching to try pickled mango. And there’s recipe for pickled cauliflower that I would like to try.
I’ve been taking up to having half a lavash flatbread (store-bought…I oughta make my own…) when my stomach is feeling iffy. That and a date. I have to eat at least one date per day. No idea why. Oh, and I love the idea of a beet paratha…I have some golden beets in my fridge just crying to be used…that would be something fun to make
I’m not too keen on rice either. I have it once and a while (I did last night, and felt okay with it). If I ever have it, I have brown basmati. Anything else makes me feel…puffy. :\
Yeah, I was starting to notice that I was feeling worse after having leftovers. For a while I used to make HUGE batches of food that I would re-heat during the school week (since I’m on campus a lot of the time, usually. On break now) and always felt really cruddy. I’ve been making everything fresh now for a while, and feel a bit better. It takes a little more time, but it’s worth it IMO.
I LOVE HUMMUS!!!
thanks for sharing the recipe! also, the drink looks cool. i’m stoked to try it out, too.
awesome blog!
haha me too. Hummus is like…the food of the gods. No exaggeration lol! I must say, it’s a pretty damn good recipe.
For the drink (I know I didn’t post a recipe, so I’ll do it now…) I used 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk, 4 sachets of stevia extract in the raw, 1 capful of chocolate extract, 1 capful creme de menthe extract – did the same freezer method as my other frappe drinks …and topped it with a tofu “whipped cream” which is basically my tofu pudding – 1/4 block mori-nu lite silken tofu, 1/2 tbs black cocoa powder, 2 sachets of stevia extract in the raw – blend these…chill…and then dollop atop the frappe!
